Connected World Post #2
22 03 2009Today I will be writing about a blogger in the UK but, writing about Poland. Her name is Sylwia Presley and she is a very active blogger. I chose this blogger because I am what you might call a “geek”. The topic of the blog post is about the new social networking site for the citizens of Poland.
Citizens are invited to become “e-memebers” or the parliament. They are invited to take part in e-voting to show the real opinions of the real citizens on topics such as new laws, human rights, and the like. As of the beginning of March there is about 700 users. Other than the ability to discuss the website allows people to see what new laws and/or legislation is going on and what it is all about. The hot topic as of the day Sylwia wrote this post the hot topic was about torture in special situations. Politicians can express their own views and opinions which, I think is a very good idea. The website is just like any other social networking site. Users can build up their profiles, use groups and forums, and can have an online discussion. A social networking site is a term used to describe websites such as Myspace or, more predominant, Facebook.
I have personally visited the website myself and from what I can tell the interface is pretty good. Currently, the entire site is only availible in Polish. I like the idea because it incoporates what we would do for social purposes right into making a more perfect government. The my isb is a little too basic to use as a main social networking platform but it was a nice try. Plus most people under 18 have never even heard of Twitter (if you know what I’m talking about). The interface reminds me of Facebook without those time-wasting apps and parts that contribute to OFD (Obsessive Facebook Disorder).
Personally I wish we could get rid of Twitter because right now it is a bit over-rated *cough* CNN *cough*. It is just Miniturized-mindless blogging. And the stuff on this reporter interviewing John McCain (sorry for the spelling) when they live in the same town is pretty gimmicky. Anyways if you’ve read this far, Kudos to you.

This is very interesting. Try using google translator and translating it to english. Be sure to give me the website at school or try to get it to me. I would love to try it out and see what it is like for myself
OMG! your blog post is sooooooooooooooooooooooo interesting cuz I might have the facebook disorder thing hahaahah well maybe not. but i go on facebook like ev-ver-ry day! I AM OBSSESED but not THAT OBSESSED. u know what i mean? hahahaha
Your blog post was very interesting. Good job in describing your thoughts about this blog I think this new social network will be very useful for the Polish citizens. They can help educate and inform others about what’s happening. This is a great idea to increase awareness in certain issues that are important for everyone to know about. Above all, great work!
Your post is fantastic. You write like a reporter to sum up the important information about what is happening in Poland and then you write like a media critic when you comment about Facebook and Twitter. Plus I agree with you. Now I’m going to RSS your blog so I can get an update whenever you write. Keep going, Dhamma!
Guess what? You’ll learn the word “taboo” in Intercultural Commuincation! Otherwise, taboo means words or actions that shouldn’t be spoken or done in public because it is considered shocking or offensive.
Hi Dhamma:
I like your comments about Facebook and Twitter, too. I have a couple of students from Pasadena, California, who were to write comments to you, but some of them have had problems with their internet connections. I do not always understand the ways of the internet, do you? I am definitely enjoying reading your blog. Thank you for posting!
Response to Lisa,
Most of the time I understand the internet but, sometimes I just go; why in the world?
I think you found a really interesting article. You could tell weather the person would be interested by what you found or weather they would get bored by the article.
